2.) Once we had been exposed to the Active Adult Community life style,
we made the clear decision to live in one. Knowing this, we researched
and found every Active Adult Community in all of the "Sun Belt" states,
and undertook an extended trip to see all those that were up to the
high standards we had set for ourselves.
3.) We visited communities in California, Nevada, New Mexico, Arizona,
and Texas spending at least three days in each, except for Phoenix
where there are so many to see that we looked at them all, spending only
one day in each. We found the traffic there as bad as LA, and the
heat unbearable.(105º to 112º all the time that we were there).
4.) The first thing we did was choose Texas as our place to live. The
decision was based on several things.
5.) That left two. We made a second trip about two months later to
see a Robson Active Adult Community, and a Sun City. As it turned out
we went to Denton, just north of Dallas and Fort Worth. It was built in a
wide open area with no trees, the only trees being those that had been
planted by the home owners. Watching the news on TV, they were
talking about traffic in the "Metroplex". There was also a tornado
watch mentioned on the weather. That did it! After living with the LA
traffic, we didn't need to face a slightly smaller version of it and we
had had enough of tornadoes in the midwest.
6.) We then made our second visit to Sun City Texas, near Austin.
We stayed here for three days a second time, and were immediately
thrilled to be here. It is my firm belief that the people here in Texas
are the friendliest people you will ever meet. Double that for those in
Sun City Texas, and you still have no idea how great it is to live here.
